Stratford Twisties Ride
Time | Destination | Venue
This is Nigel’s “Twisty Twisty Stratford Mystery Tour” – A ‘signature’ ride.
07/08/19 UPDATE: Please note that due to issues identified during this week’s recce, our toilet stop location will change from the Evesham petrol station, so more facilities are available. In addition a portion of the route has had to be altered due to road works on A429 / B4035 junction that will undoubtedly cause tailbacks and a split to the ride. For the purists among you, as much of the original route has been maintained as possible ☺
Why’s it a Mystery Tour when we know where we are going?
Well that my fellow Birmingham HOG member, is a good question ……. you may know where you will eventually end up, but you won’t be able to work out the route to get there - indeed we’ll be lucky if the road crew get it right too!.
How far are we going?
This is an approximate 75 mile, 2 hour 15 minute ride time route to travel the 18 miles as the crow flies distance to Stratford! Please be aware this route is very twisty in places and primarily is on B roads, occasionally on an A road and the odd farm track thrown in too. So if you like straight open roads this is not the ride for you. It WILL get tight in places if we meet a tractor coming the other way – you have been warned.
While the route is not too long, we will make a petrol stop after about 35 miles just before Evesham to allow bikes with small petrol tanks to fill-up so they have petrol left once we arrive at Stratford. Those with small bladders will be able to release them at this stop too!
When are we leaving?
We will be meeting at Hopwood Services J2 of M42 – please park by the drive thru Starbucks as it’s not so busy at that end of the service station and there’s ample coffee and toilets.
We will be leaving at 10:00 a.m. prompt, so please arrive no later than 09:40 ready for briefing from the road crew.
When will we arrive and leave again?
We should arrive in Stratford around 12:45 / 13:00 depending on traffic conditions and not losing people at the mid-route break. Traditionally because of good weather, people have made their own way back from the carpark to suit their own needs. However, if anyone needs escorting back, a member of the road crew will be leaving after approx. 2 hr break (exact time will be confirmed on the day) to lead people back to the motorway network at J15 of the M40, to allow them to travel onwards to M42 and M6.
Where are we going?
If all goes according to plan we should see the following places, hopefully in this order:
Shipston on Stour,
Stratford Upon Avon
